“The Insider” (インサイダー), Original Japanese Movie Poster 2000, Michael Mann / Al Pacino / Russell Crowe, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O577
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for The Insider (インサイダー), Michael Mann’s acclaimed corporate thriller starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe.
Released internationally in 1999 and promoted in Japan under the title インサイダー, the film is one of the defining American dramas of the late 1990s: a tense, intelligent work about journalism, corporate power, whistleblowing, and moral courage.
Film background
Directed by Michael Mann, The Insider is based on the real-life story of tobacco-industry whistleblower Jeffrey Wigand and television producer Lowell Bergman. Russell Crowe plays Wigand, a former tobacco executive who risks his career, family, and personal safety to expose damaging industry secrets. Al Pacino plays Bergman, the 60 Minutes producer determined to bring the truth to air despite legal, corporate, and institutional pressure.
The film is widely admired for its sober intensity, sophisticated visual style, and powerful performances, particularly Crowe’s transformation into a man gradually crushed by the consequences of telling the truth.
Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses a severe, elegant split composition. The upper half is dominated by a close portrait of Al Pacino, his head lowered in quiet concentration. The lower half shows Russell Crowe in deep shadow, framed against a muted landscape, giving the design a restrained but deeply dramatic tone.
Across the central black band, the Japanese tagline reads:
「銃声のない、荘厳なる戦場へ——。」
“To a solemn battlefield without gunfire.”
At the top, beneath Pacino’s name, the Japanese copy reads:
「メディアさえ操る巨大な権力を倒すため、二人の男は手を結んだ。」
“To bring down a vast power that could even manipulate the media, two men joined hands.”
The lower text beside Russell Crowe reads:
「すべては一人の『インサイダー=内部告発者』から始まった。」
“Everything began with one insider — one whistleblower.”
The bold red Japanese title インサイダー anchors the centre of the poster, giving the otherwise muted design a sharp dramatic focal point.
