This is an original Japanese B1 poster printed in 2003 for the first Japanese theatrical release of The Matrix Reloaded, the Wachowskis’ spectacular sequel to The Matrix. Measuring approximately 72.8 × 103 cm, this larger format offers twice the surface area of a standard Japanese B2 poster, giving its striking imagery exceptional presence.
Film background
Reuniting Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne, The Matrix Reloaded expands the story of Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus as the machines threaten the human city of Zion. Combining questions of choice and control with ambitious visual effects, elaborate martial arts sequences, and its celebrated freeway chase, the film brought the franchise’s cyberpunk world to an even greater scale.
Poster design
An imposing composition dominated by enormous portraits of Neo and Trinity, their black clothing and trademark sunglasses set against the unmistakable green tones of the Matrix. Action scenes reflected in their lenses reward closer inspection, while cascading digital code connects the two figures and reinforces the film’s simulated world.
The silver-white Japanese title and prominent “6.7” release date anchor the lower section. The restrained typography allows the portraits to command attention, making this an especially effective design in the larger B1 format.
Condition
