“The Night Porter” (愛の嵐), Original Japanese Double-Sided B3 Poster / Press Sheet, 1975 — ZA1172

An original Japanese double-sided B3 promotional sheet for Liliana Cavani’s The Night Porter, starring Charlotte Rampling and Dirk Bogarde. The film dates from 1974; its first Japanese release followed in 1975, distributed by Nippon Herald Films under the title Ai no Arashi — “Storm of Love”.

Combining a full-colour pictorial front with extensive editorial material on the reverse, this piece offers both the display appeal of a poster and the documentary interest of a theatrical press sheet.

The front comprises two separately framed panels. On the right, a large portrait of Charlotte Rampling presents the film’s best-known costume image: a military cap, blue mask and suspenders. Red English title lettering fills the lower corner, beneath Cavani’s directing credit.

The left panel contrasts this portrait with a softly photographed pink rose against a blue background. Three inset film stills feature Rampling and Bogarde, followed by a wintry exterior scene. The Japanese title appears below in large white lettering, accompanied by compact credits and the Herald distributor logo. The contrast between delicate floral imagery and the film’s darker historical imagery gives the design its particular tension.

The reverse is equally substantial. A large monochrome photograph of Bogarde and Rampling is surrounded by Japanese commentary, a synopsis, bilingual cast and production credits, and illustrated profiles of the two stars and Liliana Cavani. Separate essays discuss the film and its music, preserving how it was introduced and interpreted for Japanese audiences.

This combination makes the sheet especially appealing to collectors of Cavani’s cinema, Charlotte Rampling memorabilia and Japanese film publicity.

Condition: Excellent. A vertical centre fold is present, together with light handling creases and some edge wrinkling. The colour imagery remains strong, and both printed sides present well. Please review the photographs, which show the exact item offered.
