"The Postman Always Rings Twice" (郵便配達は二度ベルを鳴らす), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N223

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1981 for the release of The Postman Always Rings Twice, directed by Bob Rafelson and distributed by Herald Films in Japan.

Based on the 1934 novel by James M. Cain, the film is a neo-noir crime drama starring Jack Nicholson, Jessica Lange, and John Colicos. It tells the story of a drifter, Frank Chambers (Nicholson), who begins an affair with Cora Smith (Lange), the wife of a diner owner. Together they plot to murder her husband, setting in motion a destructive spiral of lust, betrayal, and guilt.

The film is a remake of earlier adaptations, including the 1946 MGM classic starring Lana Turner and John Garfield. Rafelson’s 1981 version is noted for its raw intensity, eroticism, and psychological realism, which sparked controversy at the time of its release.

The poster design emphasizes the film’s themes of passion and violence. A dramatic still of Nicholson and Lange locked in an illicit embrace dominates the composition, while the lower half features the couple’s car tumbling violently in a crash. The bold red Japanese title 「郵便配達は二度ベルを鳴らす」 slashes across the imagery, underscoring the intensity of this fatalistic noir romance.
