This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1973 Japanese re-release of The Railroad Man (鉄道員 / Il Ferroviere). Directed by and starring Pietro Germi, the 1956 Italian drama returned to Japanese cinemas through New Cinema Corporation (NCC). This design places the smiling face of Edoardo Nevola as Sandro against an atmospheric railway backdrop, capturing the film’s blend of family affection and working-class hardship.

Film background

Pietro Germi plays Andrea Marcocci, a railway driver whose professional difficulties and drinking place increasing strain on his family. Edoardo Nevola, Luisa Della Noce, and Sylva Koscina feature alongside him, with music composed by Carlo Rustichelli.

Seen in part through the eyes of Andrea’s youngest son, Sandro, the story explores the vulnerability beneath his father’s stern exterior. The pressures of railway work, fractured family relationships, and the possibility of reconciliation give the film its emotional depth.

Poster design
