“The Return of the Pink Panther” (ピンク・パンサー2), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1975, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm)

Sale price $115.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1975 for the first Japanese theatrical release of The Return of the Pink Panther (ピンク・パンサー2), Blake Edwards’s stylish comedy-mystery starring Peter Sellers, Christopher Plummer, Catherine Schell, and Herbert Lom. The film marked the triumphant return of Sellers to the role of Inspector Jacques Clouseau and helped relaunch the Pink Panther series for a new era.

Film background
Released in 1975, The Return of the Pink Panther brought back the jewel-thief-and-detective formula that had made the earlier films so beloved, with Sellers once again at the centre as the gloriously incompetent Clouseau. Directed by Blake Edwards, the film follows the theft of the famous Pink Panther diamond and Clouseau’s chaotic pursuit of the culprit across Europe and the Middle East. With its blend of slapstick, elegant production design, and Henry Mancini’s instantly recognisable music, it remains one of the most popular entries in the entire series.

Poster design
This is a superb and highly characterful Japanese release design. Rather than relying on a conventional photographic montage, the poster is dominated by the large illustrated Pink Panther figure, rendered in vivid pink with cane and top hat, instantly giving the sheet charm, humour, and exceptional wall presence. Around him are circular stills of Peter Sellers and key scenes from the film, along with small comic illustrations that reinforce the mischievous tone. The bold blue Japanese title across the centre works beautifully against the pale background, making this a particularly playful and attractive country-of-origin poster for one of the series’ defining films.
