This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1998 for the first release of Spiral.
Spiral (Japanese title: らせん, Rasen) is a 1998 Japanese supernatural-horror thriller directed by Jōji Iida and released by Toho on 31 January 1998—the same day as its sister film Ring. Adapted from Kōji Suzuki’s novel Rasen, it continues the cursed-videotape saga, weaving medical mystery with psychological dread.
Plot overview
Forensic pathologist Mitsuo Andō performs an autopsy on his old friend Ryūji Takayama, discovering a cryptic lump of videotape embedded in the corpse’s throat. As Andō investigates, he learns of the urban legend surrounding a deadly VHS tape and the vengeful spectre Sadako Yamamura. Drawn into a spiral of virology, resurrection, and techno-curse, Andō faces a chilling choice: exploit Sadako’s mutating DNA to resurrect his drowned son—or stop a viral apocalypse that will digitise death itself. Blending clinical body horror with the fatalistic chill of J-horror, Spiral offers a darker, more science-fiction-tinged counterpoint to Ring’s ghost story.
