This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1963 for Tokyo Olympic no Michi (“The Road to the Tokyo Olympics”), a Toho‑produced sports documentary made in the lead‑up to the 1964 Tokyo Summer Games. The film celebrates the Olympic ideal and showcases athletes training around the world as Japan prepared to host its first modern Olympics, a turning point in the nation’s post‑war history. 

Design
A dynamic collage captures the spirit of competition: in the centre, a sprinter mid‑stride bursts across the sheet, rendered in bold halftone dots that evoke both newsprint and pop‑art. Behind him floats a large golden medal relief, while at right the Olympic cauldron blazes beside the scoreboard reading “RIVEDERCI A TOKYO 1964”. The lower band is anchored by the five Olympic rings and huge red kanji title 「東京オリンピックの道」. A blue musical‑staff border across the top hints at the rousing orchestral score.
