This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1965 for Freddie Francis’s macabre Amicus chiller The Skull, starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and Patrick Wymark. Adapted from Robert Bloch’s story “The Skull of the Marquis de Sade,” the film follows an obsessive collector whose prized relic unleashes hallucinatory evil—one of Amicus’s most stylish, minimalist nightmares.
Design
A terrific hand-painted Japanese composition: a menacing skull explodes with white eye-beams, arranged in a fan that frames a circle of vignette mayhem—stabbings, séances, and levitations—promising “妖怪奇異の殺人” mayhem. The bold, jagged red title 「がい骨」 slams across the center, with cast credits beneath and the Paramount distribution mark along the foot confirming first issue.
