“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2” / 「悪魔のいけにえ2」, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1986, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — T191

Sale price $135.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1986 first Japanese release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Tobe Hooper’s outrageous, darkly comic sequel to his 1974 horror landmark.

Released in Japan on 25 October 1986 through Japan Herald Films, the sequel reunited audiences with Leatherface and his cannibal family, combining elaborate practical effects with grotesque humour and carnival-like spectacle.

The Japanese design captures this excess through Leatherface raising his chainsaw overhead, a screaming central portrait, and enormous red-and-orange title lettering.

Film background

The story follows Stretch, a Texas radio DJ played by Caroline Williams, who inadvertently records a chainsaw murder during a telephone call to her programme.

The recording attracts the attention of Lefty Enright, a former Texas Ranger played by Dennis Hopper, whose search for the killers has become a personal obsession. It also draws Leatherface and his family towards Stretch, leading to a confrontation within their underground lair beneath an abandoned amusement park.

Directed by Tobe Hooper from a screenplay by L. M. Kit Carson, the film pushes the series into splatter comedy, combining gruesome violence with exaggerated performances and a macabre vision of family enterprise.

Bill Johnson plays Leatherface, Jim Siedow returns as Drayton Sawyer, and Bill Moseley introduces the manic Chop Top. Special make-up effects by Tom Savini give the film much of its visceral impact.

Its confrontational humour, extravagant production design and distinctive characters have made it an enduring favourite among collectors of 1980s horror and cult cinema.

Poster design

Against a dark background, Leatherface occupies the left and centre of the composition, holding an orange chainsaw above his head. The long silver blade extends diagonally towards the upper-left corner, giving the image a forceful upward sweep.

His stitched mask, dark jacket, pale shirt and patterned tie are clearly visible. The combination of formal clothing and a raised weapon captures the film’s unsettling mixture of domestic absurdity and violence.

Below him, a large photograph of Stretch screaming becomes the second focal point. Warm orange light illuminates her face, while coloured lights and smaller scenes build a crowded montage around her.

Irregular white borders resembling torn paper divide the photographs. These are part of the printed design, contributing to its deliberately jagged appearance.

The Japanese title:

「悪魔のいけにえ2」

runs vertically down the right side in enormous red brush lettering, ending in an oversized orange 2. Turquoise credits along the outer edge prominently identify Tobe Hooper and Tom Savini.

The large orange promotional headline reads:

「あの惨劇から13年!今度は何人切り刻むのか!」

“Thirteen years since that massacre! How many will be cut to pieces this time?”

This refers to the story’s chronology, connecting the sequel’s events to the original massacre.

At the left, the compact English logo reads:

“THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART 2”

Green vertical text also identifies the film as an official participant in the Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival ’86.

Smaller images across the lower section introduce the family’s grotesque surroundings, with cold blue lighting contrasting against the warmer portraits and orange numeral. Herald branding and the Eirin mark appear near the bottom-left edge.

The result is a bold example of Japanese horror advertising, combining character photography, sensational promotional copy and aggressive typography into a composition with immediate display impact.
