“The Unbearable Lightness of Being” (存在の耐えられない軽さ), Original Japanese Theatrical Poster 1988, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O215

Sale price $200.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1988 for the first Japanese release of The Unbearable Lightness of Being. A genuine cinema display piece produced for theatres in Japan and now scarce in collectible condition.

Film background
Philip Kaufman’s adaptation of Milan Kundera’s celebrated novel intertwines love, freedom, and political upheaval as a Prague surgeon (Daniel Day-Lewis) and the women in his life (Juliette Binoche, Lena Olin) navigate the 1968 Prague Spring and its aftermath. Acclaimed for its performances and intimate, human scale set against sweeping history.

Poster design
A cool grey field frames a provocative production still: Day-Lewis seated on the bed while Olin, in black lingerie, reaches toward a mirror—her reflection and Binoche’s visible within it. Large vertical Japanese titling crowns the composition, with an understated English footer credit—elegant, adult, and unmistakably late-’80s arthouse.
