This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese cinema release of The World of Apu / Apur Sansar (released in Japan as 大樹のうた), directed and written by Satyajit Ray—the third and concluding chapter of the Apu Trilogy (following Pather Panchali / 大地のうた and Aparajito / 大河のうた).
This exact Japanese release opened on 12 February 1974, issued by Equipe de Cinéma (エキプ・ド・シネマ)—noted historically as their first roadshow programme.
Poster design
A superb, austere black-and-white design built around a lone figure walking through a forest path, surrounded by a grid of small stills and character portraits, with the bold vertical title 大樹のうた (with “大地のうた第三部” noted on the design). The layout is minimal, modernist, and deeply “arthouse Japan” in tone—an exceptionally frameable Ray / world-cinema piece.
