This is an original first-release Japanese B2 movie poster for Goldfinger (007/ゴールドフィンガー), the third James Bond film and one of the defining entries of the 1960s spy-adventure cycle. Released in Japan in 1965 and distributed by United Artists, the film cemented the Bond formula at its most iconic: glamour, danger, exotic criminal ambition, lethal gadgetry, memorable villains, and Sean Connery at the height of his 007 persona.

The Japanese title ゴールドフィンガー appears in bold pink lettering across the lower centre of the sheet, beneath the enormous red 007 numerals. This is a highly attractive theatre-distributed first-release Japanese poster with outstanding Bond display impact.

About the film

Goldfinger is widely regarded as one of the greatest James Bond films. Directed by Guy Hamilton, it stars Sean Connery as James Bond, with Gert Fröbe as Auric Goldfinger, Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore, Shirley Eaton as Jill Masterson, Tania Mallet as Tilly Masterson, and Harold Sakata as Oddjob.

The film’s Fort Knox plot, gold-painted body imagery, Aston Martin DB5, laser-table sequence, and villainous obsession with gold became central to the mythology of the Bond series. As the third official Bond film, Goldfinger helped transform 007 from a successful screen character into a global popular-culture phenomenon.

Poster design

This Japanese B2 uses a rich, dramatic collage format characteristic of major 1960s international film advertising. The centre is dominated by a large portrait of Sean Connery as James Bond, holding his pistol upright beside his face, calm and controlled against a warm gold-brown background. The image immediately communicates Bond’s cool authority and the film’s luxury-threat atmosphere.

The huge red 007 numerals form the poster’s central graphic anchor, while the Japanese title ゴールドフィンガー stretches boldly across the lower portion. To the right, Shirley Eaton appears in one of the film’s most famous images as the gold-painted Jill Masterson, while additional stills show Bond, Goldfinger, and scenes of danger and seduction.

Along the lower section, the English title “GOLDFINGER” appears within the original credit area, while smaller images include Bond in confrontation and Goldfinger himself. The Japanese text identifies this as the third James Bond film, with top billing for Sean Connery and key cast and crew names printed across the upper margin.

The overall effect is superbly period: dense, glamorous, dangerous, and unmistakably 1960s Bond. The design combines Japanese typographic drama with the iconic visual language of early 007 advertising.

Condition

Excellent overall vintage condition, with one small tear visible in the lower centre area, shown clearly in the additional close-up image. Apart from this, the poster presents very strongly, with rich colour, excellent contrast, and superb overall display appeal.
