Japanese Poster Size Guide — B2, B1, STB, B0 & larger formats

A rare original Japanese B3 poster for Toei’s theatrical triple bill of Kamen Rider J, Ninja Sentai Kakuranger and Blue SWAT, which opened in Japan on 16 April 1994. Toei issued this landscape nakazuri (中吊り), a format designed to hang above the aisle inside Japanese commuter trains.

In Near Mint condition, with vivid colours and crisp detail throughout the artwork. The three groups of heroes fill the width of the sheet and will display beautifully framed.

Film background

The fair brought Toei’s Kamen Rider, Super Sentai and Metal Hero series together on one cinema programme. Directed by Keita Amemiya, Kamen Rider J introduced nature photographer Kōji Segawa, who draws on the Earth’s power to become a 40-metre giant. In Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, five ninja heroes defend two children whose home has caught the eye of a monster who shrinks buildings for his collection.

The poster bills both films as new theatrical productions. It describes Blue SWAT as a “special theatrical edit”. This version combined the first two television episodes with new footage and narration to tell the story of the three officers fighting an alien invasion.

Poster design

Kamen Rider J reaches towards the viewer, his red compound eyes and ridged silver faceplate set against a burst of orange and gold. On the left, the five Kakurangers pose with their weapons beneath the towering robot Muteki Shōgun. The three Blue SWAT officers occupy the right in dark tactical armour. Each group has its own title logo just above the broad white lower margin.

A small Toei–Bandai credit appears at upper left. On the opposite side, white lettering with a deep blue shadow runs diagonally across the Rider’s raised glove.

「ぼくらの地球があぶない!立ち上がれ、夢の三大ヒーロー!!」
“Our planet is in danger! Rise up, three great heroes of our dreams!”

Condition

Near Mint overall. The sheet presents as unfolded, with a few faint handling impressions in the blank lower margin. The reverse is clean overall, with slight show-through from the printed design. Please review the photographs of the front and reverse for the full condition.
