“Tokyo Godfathers” (東京ゴッドファーザーズ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2003, Rare, B1 Size (71 × 103 cm)

Sale price $500.00

This is an original Japanese B1 poster printed in 2003 for the first theatrical release of Tokyo Godfathers—Satoshi Kon’s Christmas-set, found-family odyssey produced by Madhouse and co-written with Keiko Nobumoto.

This poster is extremely hard to find in a B1 large size!

Film background

On Christmas Eve, three down-on-their-luck companions—Gin, Hana, and Miyuki—discover an abandoned newborn and set out across Tokyo to find her parents. Loosely inspired by John Ford’s 3 Godfathers, Kon blends social realism, screwball momentum, and miracle-tinged coincidence into a humane, sharply observed modern holiday classic. (Noted on the sheet, the film was an official selection of Big Apple Anime Fest 2003.)

Poster design

This large-format B1 shows the trio mid-tumble through a snow-flecked night skyline, the baby cradled against a glowing Tokyo Tower. Deep reds and city-light golds bathe the scene, while the vertical tagline reads 「私の名づけ親は3人のホームレスでした。」 (“My godparents were three homeless people.”). The rugged white brush title 「東京ゴッドファーザーズ」 powers across the base, with Kon’s director credit and release copy along the footer—an atmospheric, celebratory country sheet that captures the film’s warmth and urban sparkle.
