“Tourist Trap” (デビルズ・ゾーン), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1979, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — T267
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Tourist Trap, released locally as デビルズ・ゾーン (Devil’s Zone). Directed by David Schmoeller, this unsettling cult horror film combines an isolated roadside attraction, sinister mannequins and supernatural menace. The Japanese campaign translates that atmosphere into a strikingly dark and unusual design.
Film background
Starring Chuck Connors, Jocelyn Jones and Tanya Roberts, the film follows a group of young travellers whose breakdown brings them to a secluded tourist attraction filled with unnervingly lifelike figures. Their encounter with its proprietor develops into a nightmare in which the boundaries between people and mannequins begin to dissolve.
With its eerie score by Pino Donaggio, Tourist Trap blends the pursuit and isolation of backwoods horror with dreamlike imagery and seemingly impossible events. Its disturbing mannequin sequences give the film a distinctive identity within late-1970s American horror.
Poster design
A huge vulture with outstretched wings spans the upper portion of the sheet, hovering above an expanse of deep black. Beneath it, a pale mannequin’s face emerges from the darkness, its vivid green eye and painted lips creating an uncanny focal point.
The restrained composition gives the imagery considerable impact: the bird suggests death and impending danger, while the isolated face captures the film’s unsettling use of artificial human figures. Across the pale, mottled background at the top, the Japanese title appears in sharp red lettering, with the English “TOURIST TRAP” printed directly below.
The bold warning 「警告!」—“Warning!” introduces the promotional copy, while compact white credits occupy the lower-left corner. An atmospheric display piece for collectors of cult horror and distinctive Japanese poster design.
