“Tron” (トロン), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1982, B3 Size (c. 36 × 51.5 cm) O640

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B3 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic theatrical release of Disney’s Tron (1982), Steven Lisberger’s pioneering computer-age sci-fi—starring Jeff Bridges, with Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan, and Barnard Hughes, and featuring music by Wendy Carlos. The film opened theatrically in Japan on 18 September 1982 (Toho release).

A landmark title for collectors, Tron sits at the dawn of mainstream screen “digital worlds”—a film whose look and ideas became foundational for video-game aesthetics, cyberpunk visual language, and the broader history of computer graphics on film.

Poster design
A spectacular, high-impact Japanese design that distils the film’s neon mythos into one dramatic tableau: Flynn and Yori in glowing circuit suits, the light-cycle charging toward the viewer, and the angular architecture of the Grid cutting into deep space. The bold Japanese tagline across the top—「驚きと興奮 映画は新しい夜明けを迎えた!」 (“Amazement and excitement—cinema has entered a new dawn!”)—perfectly captures how Tron was sold in 1982: as a genuine “new technology” event picture.

As with many Japanese B3 issues, the reverse is fully printed with Japanese text, stills, and programme-style layout content (synopsis/cast/features), making it especially desirable as original theatrical marketing ephemera rather than a standard one-sided poster.
