“True Romance” (トゥルー・ロマンス), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1994, Very Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O669
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic theatrical release of True Romance (1993), Tony Scott’s cult lovers-on-the-run crime romance—written by Quentin Tarantino and starring Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, with an extraordinary supporting cast including Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, and James Gandolfini. A neon-noir fairytale with razor-sharp dialogue and violent momentum, the film has only grown in stature—now widely regarded as one of the definitive cult titles of the 1990s and a key “early Tarantino universe” film.
Poster design
A clean, graphic Japanese one-sheet built around typography and split-character energy. The bold English title TRUE ROMANCE is slashed diagonally by a torn red streak—like a cut through the page—separating the film’s two forces: Clarence’s charged, forward-driving intensity (top left) and Alabama’s cool, damaged glamour (bottom right). Across the top runs a strip of character portraits—telegraphing the film’s famously stacked cast—while the Japanese title 「トゥルー・ロマンス」 anchors the header in strong block type. The tagline at the bottom reads 「どう猛な愛だけが生き残る。」 (“Only a savage love survives.”), perfectly capturing the film’s romantic fatalism. Minimal, sharply designed, and extremely frame-friendly—this is one of the most desirable Japanese campaign variants for the film.
Cult status / Japanese rarity
Original Japanese posters for True Romance are not easy to source in Japan compared with mainstream Hollywood blockbusters of the period—particularly in excellent condition—because the film’s strongest collector demand has grown steadily over time as its cult reputation has intensified. This title sits at the crossroads of Tony Scott style, Tarantino authorship, and an all-time supporting cast—making original Japanese release material increasingly desirable internationally.
