This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1989 for the first Japanese theatrical release of U2: Rattle and Hum, Phil Joanou’s rock‑documentary chronicling the band during and after The Joshua Tree tour; released in Japan on January 28, 1989 by Paramount/UIP.
Film background
Part concert film, part behind‑the‑scenes chronicle, the feature intercuts monochrome studio and road footage with color stadium performances—capturing U2’s encounter with American roots music at the end of their 1987 world tour.
Poster design
The sheet uses the now‑iconic image of Bono spotlighting The Edge mid‑performance (shot for the campaign by Anton Corbijn): a stark red/black field at right carries the English title U2 RATTLE AND HUM, while a bold vertical reads 「映画 U2／魂の叫び」 with ad copy. Credits and the UIP line appear along the bottom.
