Uno Aquirax (宇野亜喜良) Offset Poster – Pink Floyd "The Dark Side of the Moon" LP Record Promotional Poster, 1973, B1 Size (c.102.8 × 72.9 cm) AA43
This is an original Japanese offset-printed poster from 1973 by visionary illustrator Uno Aquirax / Akira Uno (宇野亜喜良). Produced for Toshiba Records (東芝レコード) as an LP promotional bonus associated with Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, this design appears in the official works list for Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery’s major retrospective exhibition AQUIRAX UNO.
This very rare B1 poster features Uno’s distinctive portraits of Richard Wright, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters, with each musician’s name lettered above his likeness. Flowing hair and finely drawn faces sit beneath a surreal lunar image, while butterflies and a floating section of landscape complete the dreamlike composition.
An example of the same design is held in the Kariya City Art Museum collection, further establishing its place within Uno’s documented graphic work.
Condition & presentation
The poster is in very good condition. It was previously folded and subsequently stored flat, and the original fold lines remain visible. A tear extending upwards from the lower edge has been repaired on the verso with archival tape, as shown in the detailed photographs. There is also age-related toning and handling wear. The imagery retains its striking visual impact, and once framed, this poster will display excellently.
Why this poster matters
This Uno commission brings together Japanese avant-garde illustration and British progressive rock, offering a distinctive Japanese interpretation of Pink Floyd during the year of The Dark Side of the Moon.
Uno is celebrated for his elegant draftsmanship and his contribution to postwar Japanese illustration, publishing and theatre design. His 2024 Tokyo Opera City retrospective featured more than 900 works, demonstrating the breadth and significance of his career.
Here, his intricate portraiture and surreal imagery translate naturally into the visual world of Pink Floyd. The combination of large B1 format, recognisable band portraits and imaginative composition makes this a particularly compelling piece for collectors of both Uno’s graphic art and Pink Floyd memorabilia.
