“Venus in Furs” (毛皮のビーナス 女芯のいとなみ), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1971, Laura Antonelli, B2 Format (c. 51 × 73 cm) — T127
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1971 first Japanese release of Venus in Furs, directed by Massimo Dallamano and starring Laura Antonelli, Régis Vallée and Renate Kasché. Released in Japan on 19 June 1971, the film was advertised under the distinctive title 毛皮のビーナス 女芯のいとなみ.
Adapted from Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s novel Venus in Furs, this 1969 European production explores a relationship shaped by obsession, jealousy and shifting power. Antonelli plays Wanda opposite Vallée’s Severin, whose fantasies begin to undermine his ability to control their relationship. The film belongs to the period when European adult cinema increasingly drew upon controversial literary works, combining psychological themes with provocative publicity.
The Japanese poster credits Dallamano under his filmmaking pseudonym Max Dillman. Antonelli’s prominence in the design also makes the sheet an interesting example of her early screen career, preceding the international recognition she received during the 1970s.
The composition is dominated by an expansive golden-toned lakeside photograph. A covered sailing boat rests on still water, framed by overhanging branches, reeds and dark foliage. In the foreground, a reclining couple occupies a blanket beside the shore, with strategically positioned leaf motifs incorporated into the image.
The unusually large area devoted to water and landscape gives the design a quiet, spacious quality. Warm yellow light across the lake contrasts with the darker greens and browns around its edges, creating a pastoral setting for the film’s intimate subject matter.
A separate mauve band across the top contains a closely cropped portrait of Laura Antonelli, alongside yellow Japanese promotional copy and a narrow line of cast and production credits. Her direct gaze provides a different mood from the secluded landscape below.
The lower strip repeats Antonelli’s face in monochrome, partly overlaid by the large pink title 「毛皮のビーナス」. Its rough, expressive brush lettering stands out against the pale background, with the smaller subtitle 「女芯のいとなみ」 positioned beneath. The English title “Venus in Furs” appears discreetly near the bottom.
Printed above the title are 「カラー作品/テクニスコープ」, identifying the colour and Techniscope presentation, and 「成人映画」, meaning “Adult Film.” These details preserve the way the production was positioned for its original Japanese audience.
The combination of romantic landscape, repeated portraiture and bold pink lettering makes this a distinctive example of early-1970s Japanese publicity for European adult cinema. It is particularly appealing for collectors of Laura Antonelli, Massimo Dallamano and Japanese film poster design.
