Alfred Hitchcock (1899–1980), universally celebrated as the Master of Suspense, was one of the most influential directors in cinematic history. Across a career spanning more than five decades, Hitchcock transformed the psychological thriller and established an unmistakable visual language through films including Rebecca (1940), Notorious (1946), Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959), Psycho (1960), and The Birds (1963).
