This collection brings together original Japanese theatrical posters from James Stewart’s remarkable film career, including rare first-release examples, distinctive Japanese promotional artwork, larger theatrical formats, and later reissues.

Stewart’s most celebrated performances include Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), The Philadelphia Story (1940), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, and Frank Capra’s enduring classic It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). His collaborations with directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Anthony Mann, and John Ford established him as one of the most versatile and important actors of his generation.

His partnership with Alfred Hitchcock produced four extraordinary films: Rope (1948), Rear Window (1954), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), and Vertigo (1958).
